    Mackay Cloughy Challenge - September 28 & 29

    September 18, 2013 2 min read

From Mackay DOwn Under Skin Diving Club

September means it is time to start gearing up for the annual Cloughy Challenge held in sunny Mackay, North Queensland, and this year's event is looking bigger than ever.

With the competition less than two weeks away, the Mackay Down Under Skin Diving Club is planning on a large turn out with 50+ divers expected to sign on for the Weekend of the 28th & 29th September.
This year's competition is proudly brought to you by Major Sponsors: Tackleworld Mackay, Adreno Spearfishing, Beuchat Australia, Aimrite Spearguns, Edge Spearguns, Phillips Mortgage Choice & Guardian Insurance, NRG Industrial, Penetrator Composite Freedive Fins, Extreme Spearfishing & Shane Morrison Marine.

Conditions leading up to the competition are looking good with great inshore water and 40m visibility offshore.

MDUSDC welcomes all AUF & USFA members to attend the annual event, with a nomination fee of $60 for Juniors (13-17 years) and $85 for divers aged 18 and over. All entrants receive an entry pack containing either a free gun bag or gear tub.
This year the club has hired the Mackay PCYC grounds which has a large parking area for all entrants to stow their boats, with a covered area for the Presentation, a casual beer & BBQ on sign on Friday Night.
MDUSDC local divers have been scoring exceptional diving off local headlands and inshore reefs, with good hauls of Coral Trout, Tuskfish, Barramundi, Fingermark, Crays and Mangrove Jacks. Divers seeking offshore waters have been landing plenty of large Spanish and Red Fish. Visibility reports have been crystal inshore due to smaller tides and light winds with reports of 40m on the Reef.
The Cloughy Challenge is the perfect excuse to pack up the wife & kids or group of mates, hook up the boat (or hire one up there), book a week’s holiday in the region and “Accepting the challenge for 2013”
