Weight belts are used to secure lead dive weights around your waist. Some people prefer to wear a weight harness, which moves the weights up around your torso and can assist in trim. Wetsuit material (neoprene) contains air-bubbles which give the a wetsuit bouyancy, which is why you need to wear so much lead while suited, as opposed to skin diving.
Weight belts are made of webbing or rubber. Rubber weight belts are higher quality and more practical for freediving as they won't slide around. It is a good idea to invest in a rubber weight belt with a stainless steel buckle as it will last and is the most practical option for freedivers.
